Some incidents regarding war crimes against children in North and East Syria
New report prepared by the Jineolojî Academy Rojava
The Jineolojî Academy Rojava has prepared a new report in order to analyze the impact of the recent attacks initiated by the Syrian transitional government (formed by HTS), on January 6th 2026, against children in North and East Syria.
The attacks carried out by the Syrian army, it’s affiliated armed groups and tribal fighters, including former ISIS members, and the NATO-army of the Turkish state, have systematically violated children’s fundamental rights to life, health, nutrition, shelter, play, education and psychological well-being. Based on field testimonies, observations and documented examples, this report clearly reveals that children are not ‘secondary victims’ or passive sufferers of war. On the contrary, they are social subjects directly targeted as instruments for the subjugation of society and the control of the future.
The aim of the report is to go beyond narrow approaches that examine war only as armed clashes, frontline movements and military outcomes. This research views war as a multidimensional and systematic form of violence imposed on society by a patriarchal, authoritarian and colonialist mentality. This violence is produced not only with bombs and weapons but also through forced displacement, kidnapping, inducing fear, poverty and the collapse of social bonds. The heaviest consequences of this are seen in the bodies, souls and dreams of children.
The goal of this report is to expose these violations and to address children’s experiences not only as a humanitarian tragedy but also as social and historical attacks. For children, war is not only a moment when weapons speak; it is a process in which the entire continuity of life is cut off and security, belonging and the future are systematically destroyed. The war systematically targets children’s physical and psychological security, their sense of belonging, their right to education and their social bonds.
Jineolojî approaches life holistically; its center is women and society. From this perspective, every attack against a child is also an attack against women, society and it’s collective future.
Children are the future of society. Every attack against children is an attack against the memory and continuity of society.
